As highly intelligent beings, our minds are strongly developed and our capability for imagination, art, music and even dreaming are among the more abstract things our brains can do that sets us apart. In creating a web of gnarled roots to ensnare ourselves by fear when the trigger for our anxiety happens, we are shackling ourselves to the floor using that same degree of intelligence. We’re prisoners of our own making, but it doesn’t have to be that way.
Identify what your triggers are, write them down, tell a therapist, talk to a support group, read about it online or at a library. By getting it out of yourself, or just being heard you are already helping to heal yourself. In learning about it, you are taking the power back to your conscious mind to help you kick anxiety for good.
Get healthy! A strong mind is complemented best by a strong body, and keeping physically active is very important to your overall well being. For those not fond of exercise or just too long out of practice, learning yoga is a very nice ease back into workouts. It helps to strengthen not only your muscles, but your mind as well, through meditation and deep breathing that can only serve to help you as you battle anxiety.
Though taking a pill, getting a massage, or seeing a therapist are great immediate solutions to the symptoms, they’re still just another trapping if it is something we are compelled to do to relieve our anxiety. Consider what sort of life you can have without that weight on your shoulders anymore, and remember that you have always been strong enough to do this, and now you can learn how! Panic Away
